This is the ABIRA introduction page. ABIRA is our forum for survivors who need help being on a computer. ABIRA means "acquired brain injury requiring assistance". You might have the assistance of a caregiver, such as a spouse, parent, daughter, son, etc. who is helping you to be on the computer right now. If you are in this category, this is the forum for you. There are some survivors on this group to help facilitate it. It is mainly here to help people who are relearning skills, such as using a computer, reading and writing, but who require assistance to be involved in a forum. We also permit family caregivers to be on this forum for obvious reasons.
We have placed our ABIRA forum on Facebook. Please go to your Facebook account and search Acquired Brain Injury Requiring Assistance ABIRA if you think that is the correct support forum for you. ABIRA is for survivors and their family caregivers only. No service providers, etc. please.
One additional BIN on-line forum is still on Yahoo groups:
For survivors, family caregivers and friends of survivors please see our "universal" Facebook group entitled Brain Injury Help, News, and Support Community. This is a peer support group. This is not a medical group. Also, this group is not open to service providers.
Please note that we also have some other private support forums on Facebook now including a Traumatic Brain Injury TBI group (tulips photo) and an Acquired Brain Injury ABI (red poppies) group. If you have a Facebook account you can most likely find them in Facebook groups.
There are many, many support groups for people with brain injuries on Facebook. We recommend you select the ones that are PRIVATE and/or SECRET style Facebook groups. We recommend you stay away from the OPEN Facebook groups.
In conclusion, you want to evaluate all groups you join online carefully.
